Troop 80 “where the action is”
Scoutmaster Tom Rodeheffer 650-967-1028

Dear parents,

A Patrol Leader teaching how to clean
the dishes using just a gallon of water.

Boy Scouts don’t just read about exciting adventures or watch them on television. They actually do them—and along the way they learn self-reliance, accountability, teamwork, and leadership. If this appeals to you, we would like you to consider Troop 80.

Troop 80 emphasizes the Patrol Method, in which Scouts elect their own boy leaders who plan and run the activities of the troop. Under the guidance of the adult leaders, experienced Scouts teach younger Scouts practical, citizenship, and leadership skills such as how to make camp and cook their own meals, how to wear the Scout Uniform properly, how to respect the United States Flag, and how to plan and lead troop and patrol activities.

Troop 80 is an action-oriented troop, with a monthly high-adventure activity such as backpacking, camping, canoeing, rock climbing, or snow camping. These fun activities provide the structure for Scouts to develop self-reliance, mental acuity, strong character, respect for others, good citizenship skills, and physical fitness. With the guidance of the adult leaders and support of the parents, all activities are planned and run by the boys, who thereby get lots of practical experience in leadership.

You won’t get lost in Troop 80. We are a small troop, with room to grow. Since most members attend most activities, after a month or so you know everybody, and the Scoutmaster has time to get to know each boy personally. Scout advancement comes naturally from learning the skills needed to participate in activities and boys typically advance at least one rank each year. On average, one or two boys make Eagle Scout each year.
